While all pimples are pesky, blackheads are truly frustrating. Tiny, plentiful and trapped inside the skin. So what are blackheads, well they are open comedones that are clogged pores or hair follicles that are filled with sebum, the natural oil that the glands on our face make, dirt, skin cells and bacteria. In other words it is another type of acne.
So why is it black, well when the contents are open to the air, clogged pores will oxidize which turns the surface black. They are more likely to form on the nose because the nose has lots of oil glands more than the rest of the face.
However, don't confuse blackheads for sebaceous filaments which are in the lining of your pores and help sebum get out of the pore and lubricate your skin. Sebaceous filaments can become visible if they fill with fats and oils and appear dark. Also, some people have prominent but short black hairs in the hair follicles of their nose which can also look like blackheads.
So the best remedy for having no blackheads is using a very good mask that draws out the blackheads and not harm the other follicles that are not blackheads.
